Quality / Value

The building blocks of business models can be configured in infinite ways. A strategy, in our view, represents one such configuration. The quality of strategies can be assessed using three criteria.

Strategies serve to reach a given ambition. As the conditions under which configurations must perform will evolve, strategies of superior quality can be identified using three yardsticks.

  1. Appropriateness: a configuration is appropriate if, based on a set of assumptions, it appears capable of reaching or approaching a given entrepreneurial ambition.
  2. Flexibility: assumptions will remain valid for a limited period of time, at best. It is therefore essential that a configuration has the necessary flexibility to adapt to gradual changes and disruptions in the environment.
  3. Completeness: since all modules and aspects of a business model are interwoven, strategies of superior quality must be complete in a dual sense. All elements must be expressly considered, and those elements requiring re-configuration must fit well with the other parts of a current configuration that will be preserved.

Designing strategies of superior quality can be facilitated by certain factors. These include the level of ambition, a culture that favours open exchange of fact-based arguments, the availability of expert knowledge and a range of appropriate tools. Strategies need sufficient time to mature. Therefore, it is our belief that initial versions of strategy options must be designed as early as possible in the process.

Professional fees for our services are based on the value of results delivered to our clients. The actual amount of time and effort required to deliver results of superior quality are not relevant to our clients, i.e. imicon will bear the risk of any extra effort required.
